i.d. Professionals: Spring Training
We often need some extra motivation to achieve our fitness goals, especially in the off season, so we brought together our panel of "i.d. Professionals" to give us some tips and tricks for staying on our fitness course.
We asked our i.d. professionals a simple question: What's your favorite way to get in shape for the spring and summer. Here's what they told us.
"My favorite way to get in shape for spring and summer is to get outside, since it's fun to see all the people that come out to be active in our parks. I will use the fitness area and equipment just north of Diversey Harbor at the end of my runs to work on pull ups, step ups and form drills. There's lots of people using it, so there is no need to feel self conscious.
"I also incorporate into my diet seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables like strawberries, asparagus, and arugula. Lighter foods for a lighter season!
"Soon, Spinning classes will be outside, so you can get a fix of vitamin D and a tough cardio session. Andwhen you combine Spinning with a strength or yoga class, you can get more focused and tone up the muscles that have not seen the light of day in many months!"

"One word: Variety. I love to be conditioned, strong, fast, lean and healthy. I love to do cardio from swimming, rowing and running. I love to do isolation and functional movements.
"I also love to do CrossFit with a mixture of gymnastics, Olympic lifting, and metabolic conditioning. For me, variety is another way to keep my workouts exciting, different and challenging. And it helps to prevent boredom. So, have an active summer!"
When to find George: Tabata Circuit, Mondays at 10 am; Caveman Workout, Mondays at 5:15 pm. George also is available for personal training.
"My favorite way to get in shape for the spring/summer season is to start running outside! I'm guilty of only indoor treadmill running during the winter, so as soon as it starts to warm up, I am out the door and running by the lake."
When to find Barb: Spinning, Wednesdays at 6:15 pm and every other Saturday at 8:15 am; Spin & Sculpt, Fridays at 6:15 am.
"For me, spring and summer mean friends, sun and sports. I'm all about combinations, so I love to incorporate a mixture of my three favorities, which usually looks something like biking to play a game of soccer with friends, taking a run to play a little beach volleyball or doing a little circuit-style workout on the beach, since everything is harder when you're on sand!
"It's been a long winter, so once the sun finally decides to come out, I try to take advantage as much as possible. That means I always try to be outside, which usually includes taking my workouts outside as well!"
