Workout Matchmaker: I want to lose weight
"Workout Matchmaker" is designed to help you get the most out of our group-fitness program. In each column, we'll take a specific wellness goal and outline a few classes that you can take to meet this goal.
Here, we take perhaps the most common wellness goal: losing weight. We all know that losing weight requires exercise -- and a healthy, well-balanced diet, of course -- but what kind of exercise is best to get rid of those unwanted pounds? Let's go to the workout matchmaker....
Burn those calories
To lose weight, we need to burn more calories than we take in each day. It's that simple.
While you're responsible for the number of calories you consume, we've got the group-fitness classes to help you burn them. Our popular Spinning classes -- available seven days a week, sometimes multiple times a day -- is one of the most effective calorie killers on our schedule.
While you'll sprint, jog, jump and climb on a stationary bike to the hottest music of today and yesteryear, you'll also shed unwanted calories, build cardio strength and strengthen muscles in your lower body. We estimate that a 150-pound person would burn nearly 700 calories if he or she works at a vigorous pace during one 45-minute class.
If Spinning isn't you're type...
Not every match is made in heaven, so we've got other classes that can help you burn calories too. Try Treadmill Bootcamp, a running class that helps you build speed and endurance through a series military-style bootcamp drills.
