Workout Mashup: Spinning and...

A "MASHUP" IS A TERM TYPICALLY USED IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TO DESCRIBE THE BLENDING OF TWO SONGS THAT YOU WOULDN'T IMAGINE GOING TOGETHER BUT END UP SOUNDING TERRIFIC ONCE THEY'RE MIXED INTO ONE. WE CONTINUE OUR MASHUP SERIES BY PROVIDING YOU WITH TIPS ON SOME WINNING COMBINATIONS TO INTENSIFY YOUR WORKOUT.

We often see i.d. members split the gym after one of these 45-minute high-intensity classes, so for this month's "workout mashup" we've picked complementary classes that appear on our group-fitness schedule right before or immediately after Spinning.

Mashup #1 - Spinning and Power Yoga:

After the heart-pumping action in Spinning, what better way to come down from this high than to build a completely different kind of high. In Power Yoga -- offered on Sundays at 9:15 am, sandwiched between two Spinning classes -- we empower you to energize your body and relax your inner soul by blending together strength and flexibility training with athletic yoga movements and breathing. After this winning combination every Sunday morning, you'll be ready to start the week with a fresh perspective. And if you're new to yoga, you can try this mashup on Tuesday evenings with Yoga Basics.

Mashup #2 - Spinning and Kettlebell conditioning:

Kettlebell Conditioning provides you with a great way to build strength. While classes typically include cardio-based movements, you should consider a group-fitness class like Spinning, where cardio is the focus. You have two opportunities to try this unique combo -- Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Mashup #3 - Spinning and tabata circuit:

Start your Mondays with Spinning at 9 am, and follow it up with Tabata Circuit at 10 am, a group-fitness class structured around super intense interval training that emphasize short, efficient bursts of energy. Talk about a cardio explosion!

Spinning is one of i.d. gym's most popular group-fiitness classes. Offered 12 times a week, you'll jump, jog, sprint and climb on a stationary bike while jamming to hot tracks from today and yesterday and burn between 400 and 800 calories.
